Description:
5 Notable Pavilions is a video and photo study of five 1:50 scale reproductions of important twentieth-century exhibition pavilions. The pavilions under study are Mies van der Rohe’s 1929 Barcelona Pavilion, Jose Luis Sert’s 1937 Spanish Republic Pavilion, Alvar Aalto’s 1937 Finish Pavilion, Gerrit [Rietveld]’s Sonsbeek Pavilion and Oscar Niemeyer’s 1939 Brazil Pavilion. A video of the models is shot in a series of slow pans separated by red ‘wipes.’ The photo element is a production photo that acts as an ‘establishing shot’ for the video and is mounted in a 70 x 145 cm light-box.”
